This late-era game was also the last in the series released on. Mega Man 6 is the first game in the series to receive character design input from fans outside Japan. This is the first time a console Mega Man let you shop around, and this would carry over into Mega Man 8 as well. A standard action-platformer, Mega Man 6 plays nearly identically to its five predecessors with a few added features such as stages with alternate pathways and new Rush adaptors. Seven borrows the "store" option from two Game Boy Mega Man games, where you spend bolts on items. But the dev team didn't just churn another one out, as there are a few new ideas employed here. There is a new armour called Rush Adaptors which allow Mega Man to merge with. Metal Blade deals 1 hit of 100 flame damage to enemies in a line, and inflicts bleeding for 30 seconds - dealing 132 damage every 4.9 seconds - with 50 base chance. There is a fake robot master, so you to be sure that you are on the right path.

Wily, more robot masters, more Rush adaptors, all of that stuff made it feel too similar. Equips Mega Man with the special 'Metal Blade' weapon, allowing him to shoot blades by tapping the screen. Mega Man 7, on the other hand, stuck to its retro guns and therefore paled next to Capcom's hyper-popular re-invention (which we'll get to soon). Mega Man X successfully aged and updated the franchise, making it more relevant and appropriate for the once-young audience who grew up playing the classic games.
